English

The utilisation of nanoparticles is widely recognised as a prevalent approach for improving the mechanical properties of polyester, owing to the favourable characteristics and weak mechanical properties of polyester. However, challenges such as the high cost of synthesising and agglomerating nanoparticles have hindered this process. Consequently, lemon juice was utilised in this research to synthesise nanoparticles with optimal surface quality through the employment of the green synthesis method, which is a burgeoning technique in nanocomposites. The Nano-reinforcement materials possess a composite structure, comprising silica nanoparticles and magnesium hydroxide Nano-shells, which leads to achieving the common properties of both Nano-materials. In this present study examined the flexural properties of polyester-based nanocomposites through incorporating nanoparticles at three different weight percentages (0.25%, 0.5%, and 0.75%). The nanoparticles crystal was validated using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and XRD patterns. Based on the bending test results, using these nanoparticles at a concentration of 0.25 wt% led to a 48% increase in flexural strength and a 47% increase in flexural modulus. Moreover, the results demonstrated that the flexural strength decreased to 40% as the weight percentage of nanoparticles increased. The decrease can be ascribed to the aggregation of nanoparticles and the destruction of polymer cross-links.
