Springback is a primary defect in sheet metal bending processes that restricts the dimensional accuracy of the produced part. In this paper, the effect of pulsed electric current on the springback behavior of 1-mm-thick 6061 aluminum alloy was investigated in L-shaped bending under two heat treatment conditions: T6 and annealed. Experiments were conducted using a 600 kN universal testing machine, a pulsed current generator, a die with a CK45 steel base, and a constant bending speed of 1 mm/min. Variable electrical parameters included current intensity (150, 250 and 350 A), pulse-on time (60, 120 and 240 μs), pulse-off time (10, 20 and 30 ms), and waveform (sine and square). All tests were repeated three times to evaluate repeatability. Thermal monitoring with a TM-969 infrared thermometer revealed a minimal surface temperature rise of only 2 to 4 ˚C, confirming the dominance of the non-thermal electroplastic effect over Joule heating. Quantitative measurements using a universal goniometer showed that T6 specimens exhibited a limited response to current, maintaining high springback angles between 11°57′ to 14°50′. Conversely, in annealed specimens, applying pulsed current reduced springback to a range of 1°47′ to 3°52′, demonstrating a strong synergy between annealing and the electroplastic effect in facilitating dislocation movement and reducing springback.
