Abstract

The purpose of this research is usage of new technique based on reverse pulse current and using of spiral shaped anode to achieve high strength and uniformity thickness in the wall of U-shaped workepiece. The innovative idea in this study is to use spring-shaped cylindrical anode and place the mandrel in the middle of the anode. Preliminary tests were performed with a common plate-shaped anode, and it was found that the helical anode improves the thickness. The mechanical properties of the parts produced by these two methods were examined and then compared. The effect of process parameters on mechanical properties and thickness uniformity has also been investigated. The results of this study showed that the experiments performed with reverse pulse current have a more uniform and glossy surface thickness and greater hardness than one-way pulse current. The results also showed that current intensity has the greatest effect on thickness. Increasing the intensity of the flow along with increasing the time interval between the forward and reverse pulses has increased the hardness of the coating. The maximum hardness obtained in reverse pulse current was 133 Vickers and the maximum mechanical strength obtained in reverse pulse current was 142 MPa. The maximum hardness and mechanical strength obtained during one-way pulse current is equal to 131 Vickers and 160 MPa.Overall, the results showed that the uniformity of thickness and hardness in reverse pulse current is higher than in one-way pulse current, but the degree of mechanical strength is higher in one-way pulse current samples.
